Literacy

Literacy skills are the key to learning later in life and early experiences in language are of upmost importance to develop lifetime learners. Children at Annabel’s are immersed in a rich language environment through books, play, songs, community events and discussions with friends and teachers.  As a child progresses through our school an increased focus is placed on letter and sound recognition interweaved with encouraging the first stages of writing and reading. Teachers motivate children to become readers and writers through play based activities and playful direct instruction.

Mathematics

We provide a broad range of contexts in which children can explore, enjoy, learn, practice and talk about their developing understanding of mathematics.  Teachers bring skills of mathematics alive through play, helping children to use all of their senses to learn about the world around them and to make connections between new skills and what they already know.

Expressive Arts and Design.

At Annabel’s, children’s creativity and imagination encompasses all areas of our learning.  Children are provided with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through music, movement, role-play and art.  Teachers provide a balance of skill based art activities as well as open ended child initiated art and crafts.  Our students get the opportunity to perform at special events such as our Christmas concert and International day celebration.

Understanding the World

Learning at Annabel’s’ is based around topics that enrich and motivate children to become naturally inquisitive about the world around them. Teachers take time to observe and notice what interests their students have and based on this, plan ways to enhance and expand children’s knowledge and thinking skills.
