The Royal Varuna Yacht Club, Thailand, was awarded to host for the IODA Optimist World Championships 2017.



The provisional date would be 9 – 20 July 2017. Thailand hosted the last IODA World Championship in 1979 but more recently hosted the IODA Asian World Championship in 2005 and 2010.

The optimist is a prominent class n Thailand and fosters talented young sailors in Thailand including the IODA World Champion in 2009 and 2010 and the amazing feat winning the team racing last year. A home championship will provide inspiration to the many young Thai and Asian sailors today.



The Royal Varuna Yacht Club is the center of sailing in Thailand with experience hosting many world events including the laser 4.7, OK Dinghy, and Fireball class. With large iconic facilities, strong infrastructure and fantastic sailing conditions. The Royal Varuna Yacht Club team will welcome you with warmly Thai hospitalities.
